Yesterday, the house at 439 East 1st Street was demolished by the City of Jacksonville. SPAR worked with other community organizations during recent months to prevent demolition of this building, which was a contributing structure in the Springfield Historic District.

The Historic Preservation Commission agreed with our position that a conservative approach was appropriate and approved the condition that only the back porch addition be removed. Yesterday's demolition occurred with no notice to SPAR.  We have reached out to City representatives and will be communicating with the neighborhood as information is received.
