Join us on Wednesday, May 20 at 6:00 PM for the first of our PAST Forward Summer Preservation Series, Presented by The Historic Collective at Compass - Historic Wood Windows: Operation, Maintenance & Repair Basics. This class introduces homeowners to the fundamentals of historic wood windows, including how they are designed to function, common issues that arise over time, and practical maintenance and repair techniques. Topics include freeing painted-shut windows, understanding sash weights and cords, basic reglazing, and improving energy efficiency without replacement. Attendees will leave with a better understanding of how to diagnose problems and perform simple repairs to keep their historic windows working for years to come.
ABOUT SPEAKER KIM PRYOR:
Kim Pryor is a preservation-focused woodworker and licensed Residential Contractor based in Jacksonville, Florida, specializing in the repair and restoration of historic wood windows. With hands-on experience working on original sash, joinery, and glazing systems, she is passionate about helping homeowners understand how their windows function and how to maintain them using practical, accessible techniques. Kim focuses on preserving original materials whenever possible and educating others on the long-term value of repair over replacement.
