We are excited to announce that SPAR is one of 129 grantees who will receive funds through AARP Livable Communities’ AARP Community Challenge ‘Quick Action’ grant program. Awardees across the country will receive grants to fund innovative projects that can inspire change and make counties, cities, towns and rural areas better places to live for residents of all ages.

“AARP has teams on the ground in communities across the country who hear from mayors, community leaders and local residents about the value of getting quick wins to create long-term change. We developed the Community Challenge Grant Program to answer that call and help build momentum for more livable communities nationwide,” said Nancy LeaMond, AARP Executive Vice President, Community, State and National Affairs. “This year, we are proud to fund more projects in more communities in all 50 states, Washington, D.C. and Puerto Rico.”

SPAR’s project will provide a bike and wheelchair maintenance station and other amenities along Main Street to improve the bike-ability of the street, as well as the pedestrian and wheelchair experience. It will also fund the installation of more trash receptacles on Main Street.

“We are thrilled to be the recipient of this grant from the AARP,” said Kelly Rich, SPAR Executive Director. “SPAR is committed to facilitating positive change in the historic Springfield community. We are looking forward to the installation of these amenities for the Springfield neighborhood and visitors to enjoy.”
