Meet your Neighbors: Kealalani Baumann (and Family) of 1429 Ionia St

Tell us a little about yourself and your family.

My husband, David, is from Baltimore and I am from Hawaii, but we have each lived in Jacksonville for about 20 years. We have two kids, an eleven-year-old boy and three-year-old girl. We own Maddy D’s Café and Sweets in Downtown Jacksonville. We love movies and all forms of art. We go on cruises every year, that’s our form of camping.

 When did you move to Springfield?

We moved to Springfield in March 2012, renting a house on 6^th and Laura. We immediately fell in love with the houses and bought our house in August 2013. We love our house and our street. It’s quiet and peaceful and we have great neighbors!

 What made Springfield a great option for you and your family?

We loved the houses, trees, and at the time the price was right for us. After buying our house, we got to know the community and all of the events in the neighborhood. We have never lived in such a welcoming and supportive community like Springfield before and count ourselves lucky to have found it!

What is your favorite neighborhood or SPAR-hosted event?

The Halloween Ball is by far our favorite event! We go all out every year and really have a good time. Runner up to that would be PorchFest, where we are always vendors. We love seeing so many people enjoying our neighborhood as much as we do.

Talk a little about your favorite SPR activities or restaurants/shops:

We love that there are so many options for things to do so close to home. We can walk to Bleu Chocolate which is a block from our house. A short bike ride away there are breweries that have rotating food trucks, we have a great pizza place, and so much more. I can even get a new dress or treats for our pups! Our favorite is Wafaa and Mike’s Cafe on Main Street. We are looking forward to having so many more options, like 1748 Bakehouse coming soon.

Is there anything you would like to add?

We are looking forward to our kids growing up in this neighborhood and being able to welcome new residents. We are fortunate to have such a great community around us. We are so happy that so many people are choosing Springfield to call their home too.
