Historic Springfield Tour of Homes - May 21st & 22nd, 2016

The Tour of Homes is a two-day event, on both May 21 & 22, from 12noon to 5pm, starting at 1501 N. Main Street.

In our 38th year of hosting the event, we'll have 7 unique venues open to guests, showcasing the classic architecture and character of the Springfield Historic District, with some modern surprises. Venues include:

> A majestic 1909 Colonial Revival residence featured in Jacksonville’s Architectural Heritage book, noted for its superb two story, wrap around porch.
> A new construction, ultra-energy efficient “green” bungalow.
> A three-story 1911 Queen Anne with elaborate woodwork.
> A gorgeously renovated 1914 commercial loft space.
> An eclectic 1912 bungalow with grand fireplace and hen pasture.
> A fresh renovation of an historic 1905 home with bold modern elements.
> An updated 1920's red brick quadruplex.

The venues are within walking distance of each other, but some guests may wish to bicycle or drive.

Saturday, May 21st, from 12:00noon to 5:00 pm
Sunday, May 22nd, from 12:00noon to 5:00 pm

*Tickets are valid during both days of the Tour.

Tickets are $12 in advance of May 21st and $15 on the day of the Tour. Advanced tickets can be purchased online here:

BICYCLE TOUR:
A guided bicycle tour edition is also available for guests, FREE with purchase of a Tour of Homes ticket. In this extended version, Leigh Burdett of E2ride Bike Tours will guide guests throughout the neighborhood, highlighting notable history, stories and architecture along the way.

The tour departs from 1501 N. Main Street, office of Better Homes & Gardens Real Estate, on Saturday, May 21st at 1:00pm (must arrive by 12:45pm). The bicycle tour usually takes about 3 hours. PARKING: 
Parking can be found along Main Street near the start (1501 N. Main Street), on W. 5th Street near the intersection of Main Street, or along the curb through the neighborhood. Parking is free. 

NAVIGATING THE TOUR:
You start the Tour at 1501 N. Main Street, the office of Better Homes & Gardens Real Estate, where you'll receive the commemorative Tour Book, including the venue addresses and a map of the suggested Tour route. While the Tour route is walkable for some, others may wish to ride a bicycle or drive

AFTER THE TOUR:
On Saturday evening, May 21st, stay in Historic Springfield for a "tour" of live and local music at a variety of venues including The Karpeles Musem, Uptown Kitchen & Bar, Three Layers Cafe, The Bird House, Shanty Town Pub, Tapas Old World and The Walnut Inn. More details to be announced.

EATING AT THE TOUR:
If you work up an appetite while enjoying the Tour, Uptown Kitchen & Bar, Three Layers Cafe and Tapas Old World are just a few blocks away. Uptown Kitchen & Bar (1303 N. Main Street) is newly renovated, with full bar, serving breakfast, lunch & dinner. Three Layers Cafe (1602 Walnut Street) has been named the Best Coffee House in Jacksonville, with delicious treats, snacks and relaxing wine bar. Tapas Old World (1417 N. Main Street) serves delicious Mediterranean dishes meant to share. Want a cold treat? Bold City Pops will be stationed along the Tour route as well, serving a variety of handcrafted popsicles made with local ingredients.

ABOUT THE EVENT:
The event benefits Springfield Preservation & Revitalization (SPAR Council), the 501c3 grassroots organization dedicated to preserving the character, facilitating investment and building community in the Springfield Historic District. The Tour of Homes has showcased the unique character of the community for 38 years, and is a major fundraiser for programming and services provide by SPAR Council.
