Community Calendar

Our community is known for it's neighborhood activities, both planned and impromptu. The Community Calendar highlights some of the larger events, but there are many others as well.

Reoccurring monthly meetings include the SPAR Council Board of Directors meetings, which are open to the public and held every 3rd Monday of the month @ 6pm at the SPAR office, 1321 N. Main Street. Guests enter through the back door and go up to the 2nd floor. And also Sheriff's Watch meetings, held every 4th Tuesday of the month @ 6pm at the Kennedy Community Center at 1133 Ionia Street, on the 2nd floor.

Preservation Workshop: Purchasing & Inspecting Historic Homes

The Springfield real estate market is hot, with many buyers actively searching for historic properties. Join SPAR for this year's Preservation Workshop Series, focusing on buying and owning historic homes.

The first workshop is set for Thursday, August 31st at 6pm, when Amanda Searle of Root Realty will present information on purchasing an historic home. Amanda is a Springfield resident, working in the Jacksonville real estate market and specializing in historic neighborhoods since 2003. She'll be joined by Mark Riccaboni, owner of The Whole Story Home Inspection. Mark will share some secrets to getting the best information about the condition of the historic property that you are considering. Join the Event Page now.

The Parker Urban Band will perform and we'll have a great lineup of vendors, food trucks and local beer, plus some summer / beach themed recreational activities courtesy of JaxParks. Historic Springfield 5K Walk & Run

Come join the 5K run and one mile run/walk along the tree lined streets of the Springfield Historic District, where modern Jacksonville put down roots in 1869. Running through storied streets past Victorian, Prairie and Colonial homes will be a delightful way to celebrate the spring. Register here.

The Jacksonville Urban League, in cooperation with this diverse neighborhood and citywide partners, is bringing people together from around the city to support healthy living and local vendors. You can sign-up on-line, or on race-day, to run by yourself, with friends or as part of a company, neighborhood or a large team.

Come out and sample a variety of foods, from hummus and hamburgers to pizza and ice cream; visit noteworthy houses; stop by the historic fire station; and pick up information on health enhancing lifestyles from vendors at the race site. Spend the morning, or make a day of it after the run-walk events, exploring a timeless neighborhood where modern Jacksonville began.

Property renovations within Historic Districts of Jacksonville require a Certificate of Appropriateness (COA) from the City of Jacksonville. Jacksonville Porchfest 2017

Jacksonville's premier neighborhood music festival will return to the porches and parks of Historic Springfield on Saturday, November 4th, 2017. Join us at this free event for more than 20 bands on porches in the afternoon and an evening concert in beautiful Klutho Park. Enjoy beer, wine and some of Jacksonville's best food trucks. Proceeds support continued arts programming in the Springfield Historic District. Join the event page here.
